Gabby knelt down to pick up the fuzzy black and orange caterpillar. Rocco came running from down the path giggling and clamoring to see what she had found. Matt sauntered over, curious what all of the fuss was about. All three crowded together peering down at the fuzzy little creature in Gabby's hand, heads bumping. The three of them have become thick as thieves over the past few years. A special bond that can only be shared by cousins. And one you certainly know is meant to last a lifetime.

This is our second year collaborating to pull off the perfect portrait for their grandmother. Trying to capture everyone's smile and unique personality, while also managing to have each of them looking at the camera is no easy task my friends. The jokes that make the 3-year-old laugh and giggle uncontrollably now elicit an eye roll or feigned annoyance from the pre-teen boy, and occasionally the nine-year-old girl. It also doesn't help that I'm mom to the youngest boys and aunt to the older two. They already know how very not cool I actually am. So, I had back-up this time. Back-up from the eternally cool and funny Uncle Tony. The same Uncle Tony who has somehow eluded the "I'm too cool for you now" phase and still knows how to navigate each of their senses of humor until he finds the perfect instigator for real and genuine laughter.

Meanwhile I'm over here working on my knock knock jokes...

All jokes aside, our session this year was nothing short of perfection. The chaos and excitement that fuels their relationships evolved into pure love and adoration in their portraits. They had fun with one another and fully enjoyed each other's laughter - happy to be living in the moment. The joy was evident on each of their faces and made me smile with pride as I worked on creating their gallery. I'm talking ear-to-ear, goofy-and-ridiculous-grin, type of smile.

Their love for one another is undeniable and I adore the relationships they are developing.
